The Story Behind 1978

You guys might not know me but my name is Brooke. I'm 16 years old and I'm the owner of 1978:) I'm featured in most of the product pictures! I package every order myself, manage all socials myself, etc. I've been meaning to do a 1978 blog for a while to share the 1978 story. So here it is...

My grandparents started a business over 25 years ago making furniture, hand painted yard signs, etc. They had a little shop in California that I grew up running around in. They ran the business together and really depended on each other. Once my grandfather died in 2010, the business became hard on my grandmother. She wasn't able to move the furniture around anymore so she decided to do something different. She started a clothing business and sold at vintage flea markets. Naturally, I would tag along and help. She is such a hardworking woman and I saw how much she loved what she did and I wanted to be just like her. As a result, I started to realize that this is something  that I really wanted to do.

After I made the decision to start my own business I had to come up with a name. I wanted it to be cute but I also wanted it to mean something. I wanted it to symbolize my grandparents and their years of hard work. They got married in 1978 and I thought it was the perfect name. It represented two important role models in my life, it represented love, hard work, family and so much more.

I am so proud of what 1978 has become so far and where it's going. I've put in so much time and effort into it. 1978 is my baby and I'm glad I get to share it with the world. Thank you all for your support!

Love, Brooke<3

  • this store is exactly what I’ve been searching for! Cute, vintage feel clothes that are reasonably priced. I’m just bummed I found it after almost all your stock was sold out, but there’s still great stuff left! Just totally would’ve gotten some of the sold out stuff. Excited to see what you’ll have in the future, when will you have new items?
